This shirt was worn by defender David O'Leary in the match against the USSR on October 16th 1985. The match ended in a 2-0 win for the Soviet Union. This match is the only occasion that I am aware of where Ireland played in this style of strip. The shirt was sold at Graham Budd's auction in May 2008, along with several other shirts which had all formerly been on display in the Arsenal FC museum. It had originally been donated to the Arsenal museum by O'Leary so there can be no question regarding its authenticity. The shirt has a number of mud stains and has clearly been worn.
