Joe Haverty Match Worn Shirt
This shirt was worn by Joe Haverty in an international match for the Republic of Ireland sometime around the late 1950s. It is a green, home, long-sleeved jersey and bears the number 11 on the back. The shirt was sold at Graham Budd's auction in May 2008, along with several other shirts which had
all formerly been in the Arsenal FC museum. It had originally been donated to
the Arsenal museum by Haverty so there can be no question regarding its
authenticity. Joe Haverty is of course an Arsenal legend. The shirt is in good overall condition for its age. The original badge is regrettably missing and a
modern replacement badge has been rather crudely attached instead.
The shirt itself is entirely original of course! I believe that the shirt may be
from the match Ireland played against England at Wembley in 1957. Haverty played
in that fixture and is photographed below. However, I cannot be certain about
this - I can be certain that it is a shirt from the late 1950s.
